Feature Description

#9684 (comment)

For desktop applications, it would be very useful to allow the application to automatically detect new versions and guide users through the update process!

IMHO this is out of scope of Slint.

If anything, it could be a page or guide in the documentation on how to do that.

But Slint should concentrate on being a library to do the UI.
Building/Packaging/Updating should be taken care of by other part of the ecosystem.

I agree with Olivier. But what we can do is give guidance in our documentation how to use third-party tools for this purpose. I suggest that we use this ticket to track documenting / recommending the use of Slint with cargo-packager when using the Rust programming language.

This is something we might need ourselves and could document it along the way then.

Should this task be made as a sub-task of #4408 ?

Providing guidance in the documentation to implement this feature is also a very good idea. Before this, I guess many people, like me, were not aware of cargo-packager.

Additionally, is there a library that allows Rust programs to run as a single instance? This is also a common requirement for desktop applications. If such a library exists, it can also be documented together in the documentation.

Packaging has been documented in the Platforms / Desktop section
