Hi, I'm Alireza Heidari

Senior Software Engineer based in Germany, focused on full-stack and frontend-heavy platform engineering. I build secure, maintainable, data-intensive web systems that make complex scientific, operational, and user-facing workflows easier to use.

I currently work on the Galaxy Project at the University of Freiburg, where I contribute to open-source research infrastructure used by large scientific communities.

What I work on

  • Platform engineering: secure credentials management, notification workflows, developer-facing tooling, and scalable user-facing features.
  • Frontend architecture: Vue 3, TypeScript, Pinia, React, Next.js, Nuxt, reusable UI infrastructure, accessibility, and testing.
  • Data-heavy workflows: dashboards, reporting interfaces, research data workflows, and cloud-based genomic analysis systems.
  • Engineering quality: code review, CI/CD, automated testing, maintainability, technical mentoring, and long-lived codebase modernization.
  • AI-enabled tools: practical AI features for learning, productivity, and workflow automation, with human review and clear system boundaries.

Selected work

Core open-source contributions to the Galaxy ecosystem, including frontend modernization, notification workflows, credentials-related interfaces, contribution tools, and reusable UI infrastructure.

AI-powered language learning app started as a 48-hour hackathon prototype and later refined with Supabase auth, FSRS-based reviews, AI-generated quizzes, and voice conversation features.

Chrome MV3 extension that improves GitHub notification triage, bulk opening workflows, and PR branch cleanup.

Nuxt-based frontend for aggregating metadata for research software tools, focused on performance, clean architecture, and maintainable deployment.

Private and experimental systems

I also build private prototypes around personal finance automation, job application workflows, document processing, and self-hostable productivity tools.

Tech stack

Languages: TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, SQL, Bash
Frontend: Vue, Nuxt, React, Next.js, Pinia, Tailwind CSS, HTML, CSS
Backend and data: Node.js, Express, FastAPI, REST APIs, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, Supabase, MongoDB
Testing and CI/CD: Playwright, Cypress, Jest, Vitest, GitHub Actions
Cloud and DevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, Vercel, Cloudflare, AWS, Linux
Practices: open-source collaboration, code review, modular architecture, secure system design, technical mentoring

Talks and publications

I have presented and contributed to work around Galaxy workflows, notification systems, Vuex-to-Pinia migration, search improvements, credential handling, and FAIR research software.
