CIViC Variant Curation Unconference 2026

Static site for the Variant Curation Unconference at the Cancer Genomics Consortium Annual Meeting, Houston, 1–2 August 2026.

Astro 5, zero client JavaScript, no third-party requests at build or serve time.

Running it

npm install
npm run dev # local preview
npm run build # static output into dist/
npm run deploy # build, then wrangler pages deploy dist

Where things live

src/content/ prose, one markdown file per section
src/data/ schedule, organizers, participants, sponsors as csv + event.json
src/assets/ images that go through Astro's optimizer
public/logos/ sponsor logos, served as-is
src/components/ ScheduleTable, PersonTable, SponsorGrid
src/styles/ tokens.css holds every colour and type decision
scripts/ build_data.py regenerates the csv files from the source workbook
docs/ typography notes, extracted logo reference rasters

Editing content

Prose lives in src/content/*.md. Edit the markdown, rebuild, deploy.

Tabular content lives in src/data/*.csv. Either edit the csv directly or update scripts/build_data.py and run npm run data. The csv files are the source of truth for the build.

Updating the schedule during the meeting

Breakout topics are voted on each morning. To publish them:

# add rows to src/data/schedule.csv, then
npm run deploy

Build plus upload runs in well under two minutes.

Privacy

scripts/build_data.py deliberately drops the email, city, state and fax columns present in the source workbook. Participants are published as name, organization, title and country only. Do not add the dropped columns back without collecting consent from registrants first.

Assets recovered from the printed brochure

All sponsor logos in public/logos/ were extracted as vector from GL23_2025-cgc-handout_CROP_v2b.pdf — they are not rasters, so they scale cleanly at any size. Two variants exist for each mark: full colour (e.g. civic.svg) and knockout white for dark backgrounds (civic-white.svg).

src/assets/background-topo.png is the dark topographic cover texture, 2340×740. This one is a raster in the source PDF at 136 dpi, which is fine for screen but below print resolution — see the notes in the handoff summary.
