Problem

scripts/post-code-test.sh and scripts/post-fix-test.sh each had a decide_push_retry helper that reimplemented the production non-fast-forward grep (post-code.src.sh §7b / post-fix.src.sh §5). Those five cases asserted against the copy, not against the post-script. Change the grep in production and the suite stayed green.

github-signed-push-test.sh covers forge_push_branch; it does not cover whether the post-script decides to retry with --force-with-lease.

Change

Replace both mirrored helpers with integration cases that run the real post-script (GITHUB_SIGNED_COMMITS=false so push is plain git push). A git wrapper feeds each first-push failure wording; the retry path is a real git push --force-with-lease.

Same five case names as before, in both files:

  • push-success
  • push-non-fast-forward
  • push-rejected
  • push-api-not-a-fast-forward
  • push-unexpected-error

Pre-commit mirroring is left alone: validate-code-output-test.sh already drives precommit_run_gate.

Why this shape

No production code changes. The value is that the tests can no longer silently diverge from the §7b / §5 decision.

To show the conversion is not vacuous: temporarily broke the production grep pattern in each .src.sh, reran the suite, and confirmed the three retry-wording cases went red (exit 1, want 0) while push-success / push-unexpected-error stayed green. Restored before commit. The old helpers would have stayed green through that breakage.

Tests

bash scripts/post-code-test.sh
bash scripts/post-fix-test.sh

(make script-build not needed — tests only.)

The decide_push_retry helpers in post-code-test and post-fix-test
asserted against a reimplemented copy of the §7b / §5 grep. They stayed
green if production drifted. Drive the real post-scripts instead, with a
git wrapper that feeds each failure wording and lets --force-with-lease
run for real.

PR Summary by Qodo

Test real push-retry behavior in post-code and post-fix

🧪 Tests 🕐 40+ Minutes

Grey Divider

AI Description

• Replace mirrored retry helpers with tests that execute both real post-scripts, so production
 decision changes cannot go unnoticed.
• Cover successful pushes, three retryable failure wordings, and unexpected errors using isolated
 Git repositories.
• Verify a plain push precedes any real --force-with-lease retry, alongside exit status and
 warnings.

Loading
High-Level Assessment

Running the real post-scripts is the right approach for detecting drift in their retry decisions. Retaining the mirrored helper would preserve the original blind spot; no production-code extraction is needed solely for these tests.

Exercise post-code push retries through the real script

• Replaces the mirrored retry helper with five integration cases using an isolated repository and a Git wrapper. Checks the initial plain push, retry ordering, exit status, and retry warning while allowing lease retries to reach the local remote.

post-fix-test.shExercise post-fix push retries through the real script +170/-66

Exercise post-fix push retries through the real script

• Replaces the mirrored helper with the same five cases, building local and remote branch history for each run. Uses the existing post-fix execution harness and verifies that a plain push precedes any real lease retry.

Remediation recommended

1. Push tests disable shellcheck checks 📜 Skill insight ✧ Quality
Description
The new push-retry test subshells suppress ShellCheck diagnostics with `shellcheck

tests can therefore be hidden from the repository's lint checks.

2. Push tests pass without a push ✓ Resolved
Description

Review

Findings

High

  • [protected-path] scripts/post-code-test.sh — This PR modifies protected paths under scripts/: scripts/post-code-test.sh and scripts/post-fix-test.sh. It has no linked issue authorizing the change (the only #1834 reference in the commits is the PR's own number), so there is no justification for modifying governance or infrastructure files. Human approval is always required for protected-path changes.
Remediation: Link an authorizing issue in the PR description and have a human reviewer approve the protected-path change.

Low

  • [missing-authorization] scripts/post-code-test.sh — The PR makes non-trivial structural test changes (about 334 lines added, 132 removed across scripts/post-code-test.sh and scripts/post-fix-test.sh) without a linked issue authorizing the work. The PR body links no issue, and the second commit's Addresses #1834 trailer points at the PR itself. The change is test-only and replaces the mirrored decide_push_retry helpers with integration cases that run the real post-scripts. This finding is unchanged since the prior review.
Remediation: Link an authorizing tracking issue in the PR description or commit message.

High

  • [protected-path] scripts/post-code-test.sh — This PR modifies protected paths scripts/post-code-test.sh and scripts/post-fix-test.sh and has no linked issue establishing authorization or justification. Remediation: Link an authorizing issue (the only #1834 reference in the commits is this PR itself) and obtain human maintainer approval.

Low

  • [missing-authorization] scripts/post-code-test.sh — Non-trivial changes replacing the push-retry test helpers with post-script integration tests have no linked issue establishing authorized scope. The latest push only adds plain-push-before-retry assertions and does not change this.

/fs-fix Address only Qodo finding 2 (“push tests pass without a push”). In both run_code_push_retry_test (scripts/post-code-test.sh) and run_fix_push_retry_test (scripts/post-fix-test.sh), after the script runs, require that ${push_log} contains a plain git push (no --force-with-lease on that first line). For expect_retry=true, also require that this plain push appears before the --force-with-lease line. Fail the test with the existing “push calls:” dump if that is missing. Keep the current retry/warning/exit assertions. Do not remove the shellcheck disable=SC2030,SC2031 comments — they match the rest of these files. Do not file an issue, do not touch production scripts, and do not address the protected-path / missing-authorization findings.

In run_code_push_retry_test and run_fix_push_retry_test, fail unless the
push log contains a plain git push (no --force-with-lease), and for
retry cases require it to precede the --force-with-lease push, so the
tests cannot pass without a push.

Note: pre-commit could not fetch hook repos (TLS failure in sandbox) and
shellcheck is unavailable. Pre-existing unrelated failures in both test
scripts (harness signed-commits / conflict-strategy checks,
signed-commits-off-plain-push) are unchanged by this commit.

🔧 Fix agent — iteration 1 (human-triggered)

Added plain-push presence (and push-before-retry ordering) assertions to both push-retry test helpers, per the human instruction. Other findings were out of scope of the instruction and not addressed. Locally, pre-commit could not fetch hooks (TLS) and shellcheck is unavailable; the test scripts show the same 3 pre-existing, unrelated failures each before and after the change (push-retry cases all pass); CI script-test is green.

Fixed (3):

  1. Qodo finding 2: push tests pass without a push (scripts/post-code-test.sh): In run_code_push_retry_test, after the script runs, require the push log to contain a plain git push (no --force-with-lease); for expect_retry=true also require it to precede the --force-with-lease line. Fails with the existing 'push calls:' dump. Existing retry/warning/exit assertions and shellcheck disable comments are unchanged.
  2. Qodo finding 2: push tests pass without a push (scripts/post-fix-test.sh): Same plain-push and ordering assertion added to run_fix_push_retry_test.
  3. Forge mergeability check: PR is MERGEABLE; no conflict reconciliation needed (outcome: skipped).

Tests: passed

CI inspections (3):

  1. script-test (passing, success): Passed on the PR head before this change.
  2. test (passing, success): Passed.
  3. skillsaw (passing, success): Passed.

Conflict update: skipped; strategy none; forge MERGEABLE; target main@f9908adce062d7e0a37635aac4b6c889835476cc
