Prerequisite: Combat robot capsules are thrown like grenades. Read Armor Equipment and Guns for capsule controls first.
Combat robots are deployable fighting units that automatically attack nearby enemies after you throw their capsule. They are used like grenades — see Armor Equipment and Guns for capsule controls.
There are three types:
- Defenders — orbit the engineer and shoot enemies that come close. Good for defensive situations.
- Distractors — stay in place and shoot lasers at enemies. Good for covering your retreat.
- Destroyers — orbit the engineer like defenders but shoot electricity at greater range. Enemies have no resistance to electric damage, making destroyers the most effective combat robot for sustained fighting.
Each capsule deploys a small group of robots. Robots have a limited lifespan and disappear after a set time or when killed. Deploying more capsules adds to your active group. All three types are researched through the military tech tree.
For full details on robot stats and behavior, see the official Factorio wiki page on combat robots.
