MacPorts is an equally-valid package manager, which stores binaries in a different location. Vips is installed at the following location when using MacPorts...

/opt/local/bin/vips

Looking at FFI.php, I'd think it would work now:

ie. it's already adding /usr/local/lib.

php-vips isn't using a CLI interface, it makes direct calls into the libvips library. What part of startup is failing?
