Incorrect restriction on file names created via the web interface #45716

Code of Conduct

What article on docs.github.com is affected?

https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/working-with-files/managing-files/creating-new-files

What part(s) of the article would you like to see updated?

The article currently states:

File names created via the web interface can only contain alphanumeric characters and hyphens (-). To use other characters, create and commit the files locally, then push them to the repository on GitHub.

This statement appears to be incorrect or outdated. I can create files through the GitHub web interface whose names contain characters other than alphanumeric characters and hyphens (-).

Additional information

The issue appears to be with the documented restriction rather than the ability to create files. The current wording could mislead users into unnecessarily creating files locally when the GitHub web interface already supports additional characters in file names.
